A Power Sharing Constitution for Nigeria

On 31st January 2024, the Minister of Education, Dr Olatunji Alausa, speaking on Channels TV, announced that: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mandated that we put back Nigerian history in our curriculum. From 2025 our students in primary school and Government Secondary Schools will have that as part of the course of study in schools”. The Minister prefaced the announcement saying: “The National Educational Research and Development Council have just reviewed the curriculum for the basic education level. One important thing that has been missing in the past is Nigerian History. We now have people who are 30 years old who are totally disconnected from our history. It doesn’t happen in any other part of the world.” History was first removed from the curriculum for the education of Nigerian children in 2008 – 17 years ago - meaning that a whole school generation has been produced without any education on the country’s history.
